Still Simmering
Apr 5th, 2010 by Marilyn
Yes, I’m here.
And no, I’ve not abandoned blogging. I haven’t vanished, nor fallen off the earth or into a ditch by the side of the road. Though certainly, I appreciate the concern – voiced by many of you dear souls – that I could be, I’m not. I am in fact just where we left off: squinting at a laptop, coffee to the left, Cleo near my feet and two steps from the kitchen.
So then, where have I been?

As noted, mostly here. I’ve been working on the work of writing – a few projects, each requiring keyboard, coffee, and 10% nuts-90% chocolate trail mix. Nothing to announce. Just send love, luck, and extra chocolate chips.
We spent Josie’s spring break here:

Of course, not in this spot, not the whole time.

We were also here

And eating, here

And oh please more, here.
We had wonderful meals in NYC and met up with new and old friends, including Amanda and Merrill, the brilliant ladies of food52…

…and surrounded by waves and sky, one great big grande dame.

Back home, Simmer’s been hopping around the web. Both PaulaDeen.com and Flashlight Worthy Books featured our Great Reads for Culinary Kids (and Hungry Adults) lists, and the New York Daily News blog Mothership Meals tapped Two-Bite Jam Tarts as a baking pick for picky kids.
So there we are. How pleasurable to speak fluent Simmer again, an odd language I use when talking to a warm, invisible group that’s not invisible at all. Still simmering, and glad you’re here.

Love the pix, loved seeing you and your beautiful Josie. I’m not familiar with food52, so I’m going to make that my next research project. Looking forward to the time when you are posting more great blogs here! Cheers.
so glad you’re back, marilyn! i missed you! (…and those pictures of your fabulous food! hehe)
Glad you had such fun in New York, and sorry again that we missed each other! I’ll be sending happy thoughts your way… good luck with whatever it is you’re working on
Dearest Marilyn,
I do sympathize. Between children and school holidays and other writing and vets and poring over new cook books and the wonder of Spring and doctor’s visits (daughter is having an adenoidectomy this morning) it is awfully easy to let the blog slip away. But I’m awfully glad you’re back and I adore your NYC shots and my own guilt is now somewhat assuaged, so thank you.
Love,
Miss W x
Glad to see you here. A post from you is always worth waiting for, Marilyn. I loved having you in “my” city!
Hooray! Glad you’re back! It was worth the wait for the NYC pics.
Your book selections bring back wonderful memories of discovering the world for the first time through books, in the era before the internets took over. (I’d forgotten one of my favorites…Bread and Jam for Frances!)
Nice to read your voice again. Welcome back. Don’t. Ever. Leave. Again.
Funny, I was just thinking of you the other day and wondering where you’ve been…glad to hear your voice again.
Thank you for this post Marilyn. I’m missing NYC in the Spring…Although, I must admit, April means the Pretzel stand down the block from me reopens for the season here in PA.
Love, luck, and extra chocolate chips on their way…I threw in a few more nuts too:)
Love the pictures of your trip to NYC. Did you see any shows?
For the first time in 22 years we didn’t go anywhere for Spring break. We are getting ready to sell our house so we had to stay home and work but next year we are thinking HAWAII!
UUUUUUh – I missed you! I’m so glad you are back. I love hearing about Josie. In a few years she’ll be off to college (now don’t start crying) and then we won’t hear so much about her anymore. Welcome back.
yay. yay yay yay. YAY!
lovely to see you back, even if for a short and sweet post. we’re here for you, dear M. x shayma

Yay! So glad you are back here
) Lovely pictures!
So happy to see you back. Loved your pics. I always love pics from your trips. Next time you need to come out west to see me
Well then, there you are. I’d just decided to click over and hunt for email directions to contact you backofblog and ask if all was OK. Very happy to hear all is busybutwell. Lots of that going around this season.
That last photo – holy moly – y’all look more like sisters than mother/daughter I kid you not. And yeah, I even looked again with my glasses ON before I typed that just to forestall my first impression being a inadvertent case of presbyopic photoshopping. Whatever you are doing lady- keep it up!
I’m glad you’re back in the saddle again. Now give me a bite of that corned beef.
take care,
muddy
Yay, you’re back. Though I was hoping you were busy writing a cookbook….
