Your story reminds me of a childhood friend whose mother received a new toaster. They all admired its shiny sides, its ability to hold fat slices of bread, its perfect golden brown product. After a few weeks, as usual, her mom slipped the bread in, and pushed down the lever. It began glowing, and then, smoke! And stink! And a final squeak. And the toaster hit the trash can.

Oh.my.god. You poor thing… but I am laughing. hysterically. I would have probably bought a new dishwasher or gone to washing by hand, forever. I’m just saying.

I’m trying to be discreet while reading this at work, but I couldn’t help but chuckle aloud at “Not pear, not pear, not pear!” Oh the horror…. I think it would be hand-wash from there on out for me. Yick.

One day my two cats were hovering around the big storage trunk. I pulled it away from the wall to look for the toy…didn’t find it and walked away. I came back a few minutes later, pulled the trunk out again, and again, and again. Finally I lifted the front and shoved it back to the wall. Out popped a mangled mouse which looked at me, took a final screeching breath and died. Then they pounced…guilt haunts me to this day.

I confess to pear issues, too, and for that matter mouse issues (though I do not own a dishwasher, which means they must find alternate places to get stuck and decompose fragrantly). Actually, come to think of it, I have other issues, too, but those are best left unsaid at this time. I always love avoiding my writing by reading yours, and today is no exception.

I read it the first time. I could not read it again. And EVERY TIME I open my dishwasher, I hold my breath just a little bit and I am thankful that nothing like that happens.

I think you could write a horror book on that story!
