Naked Poultry Done Right
Feb 2nd, 2009 by Marilyn
It’s been suggested that the Internet runs on a kind of hive mind, drawing us all into a tractor beam of same-thoughts, and this recently proved true when I heard from reader Kathleen J. Bade, blogger of One Tree Past the Fence, about my naked salted chicken. Apparently Kathleen, a professional photographer, was also going to post raw poultry that day, and got a good laugh when she checked into Simmer and saw mine. Now I know why.
Behold my low-budge chicken shot:

And Kathleen’s tasteful nude:

Well shut my mouth and repo my Nikon, I said it couldn’t be done. Who knew? In fact, Kathleen’s images are so painterly gorgeous that I suspect she and that bird shared a glass of wine and a little soft jazz. Of course it could just be her talented eye, behind the stove or the lens.
Whatever it is – nice job, Kathleen! Let me know what you’re posting next; to keep the hive mind in balance, I’ll provide the version that’s tasty, but shamefully lit.

Kudos to anyone would can make a raw chicken look that good.
Too Funny!
Truth is the chicken drank all the wine.
Truth is I think Kentucky chickens are just plain purty.
Truth is, the window light was perfect, and well Corel PSP, does wonders for uneven skin tones, even chickens are allowed a little vanity when plucked.
Again, thanks for the fun and making my day.
the girl said shut my mouth and repo my nikon.
ah nikon, maybe that’s the problem. (ducks) >>is a canon girl. lol.
It’s not the Canon – it’s the girl. Beautiful job.
The water came up and nearly out my nose when I read the “soft jazz” line. Give a girl some notice!!
LOL………
the jazz line was brilliant.
nods n blushes a bit, Thank you M. just thank you.
LOL!!! she has an eye for beauty…even if it is naked poultry!
Well, knock me over with a chicken feather. You’re right: that pic is painterly. Very 16th century Flemish. Lighting is everything, isn’t it? So happy to have found your beautiful blog!
LOVE LOVE your site! (btw we follow each other on Twitter and I just added you to the “Fave Foodies” list at ModernGirlsKitchen.com!).
I’ve struggled with the naked chicken shots…so right about the painterly qualities of these…the light is gorgeous. I may never look at naked poultry the same way again!!!
Emma
“Tasteful nude.” Here I am, giggling about naked chickens and loving these photos at the same time. Weird thing to do, at 11 AM.
I don’t think I’ll be able to look at whole chickens the same way ever again. Strangely, I think that’s a good thing.
A glass of wine… a little soft jazz… I think *I’ve* fallen in love with that bare-assed chook.
Funny stuff. We’re having roast chicken tonight so I might offer up the challenge to my girlfriend.
That is one sexy chicken! But don’t put your own photo down –I’d be happy to get one that good for my blog.
