Tagging Along
Jan 2nd, 2009 by Marilyn
Oh, dear.
I’ve been “tagged” in a blog chain by the delightful Karen of Mignardise. I’m supposed to share 6 random things about myself, and then pass it on to six more unsuspecting thrilled bloggers. A little redundant, don’t you think, sharing random bits with readers you already share most meals with? In earlier blog days, I was determined to write in the first person as little as possible – the new old house, chocolate frosting, glass doorknobs, anything but “I.” And now? Not so much. By now you know nearly as much as Greg does, or approximately twice as much as you need. What’s next? Watching sports to tune me out? Is this what it’s come to? Sigh.
Anyway, you may have heard that I’m not so good at saying no, so here goes – and if you need to turn up the game and occasionally nod, I’ll understand.
1. I’m Bob Dylan’s cousin. True – but sadly, Bob has better things to do than troll food blogs and doesn’t know me from Adam. Bob – if you’re reading, call me! I’ll let you guest post.
2. I don’t love onions, but I do love onion soup. Kind of a Fanny Dooley-Zoom thing, no?
3. I have a slight obsession with The Sound of Music, as in, I am not beneath singing “I Have Confidence” while walking the dog. I despise the Baroness and am dreamy for Captain Von Trapp. He sings, plays guitar, looks swell in a tux, climbs every mountain and sticks it to the Nazis. What’s not to love?
4. Speaking of Austria, I once drank a whole “boot” of beer in Salzburg and then threw up in a mountain meadow.
5. I’ve had four dogs: Duffy, Norman, Clara and Cleo. Greg would like to name the next pair Hogan and Klink.
6. Secret snack of shame: sliced bananas with sour cream and brown sugar.
—————–
Whew! Tag over. I’m going to break the rules and only tag three marvelous people, all of whom are sure to also break the rules, but provide delightfully random answers:
Erin from Erin Cooks
KianLam Kho from Red Cook
Jean from Renovation Therapy
The rules
- Link to the person that tagged you.
- Post the rules on your blog.
- Write 6 random things about yourself.
- Tag 6 people at the end of your post.
- Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
- Let the tagger know your entry is up.

I’m also a huge Sound of Music fan. In Kindergarten I would routinely be chastised and repeatedly shushed for singing “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria” at inopportune times.
I have just stopped singing the songs from the other day when the movie was on network tv. Now they are in my head again. I wonder if Bob Dylan ever sings from TSOM soundtrack.
Erin- I think the problem solving Maria song would be appropriate for math class.
Hogan would dig under the fence. Weekly.
LOL!! Captain Von Trapp IS dreamy. Agreed.
OK, will get cracking on this later this weekend.
i’m related to vanna white…haven’t gotten a christmas card from her yet this year though…hmmmm–maybe she forgot about her georgia relatives??
he even climbs every mountain with kids on his back–he’s a stud, for sure and for certain. ol’ christopher plummer will always be georg to me.
Thanks Marilyn, for putting up with a new blogger to whom everything is still novel. You’re very kind – I promise never to tag you again.
Yes, who doesn’t love Captain Von Trapp?–played by Canada’s own Christopher Plummer. Seems we spent our childhoods watching the same shows. Ho-gaan! but what about Schultz? I see nothing. N launched into a whole routine after I read him your future pet names. Amazing the things that linger in the mind.
Oh no, another tag! I adore Capt. Von Trapp as well. Hee Hee. But for me it is “Mary Poppins” that captured my childhood imagination. You gotta love Julie!
That’s it. We need another dog (a big round one, maybe a St. Bernard) whose name is Schultz. It “knows nothing!”
Karen, I am of course joking – a pleasure to be tagged by you. May you be tagged a thousand times and run out of random bits.
In Prague I quaffed a liter of beer with my lunch, and then wasted the entire afternoon sleeping in my hotel room. I still kick myself for not exercising a little more self control. At my age I should know better.
Those eastern Europeans like their beer.
Did you drink the 2 liter boot? Say it isn’t so.
Last time I was at Free State Brewery, I saw that they’re hosting a beer-tasting tour to Belgium this spring. I wish I had a little extra time and money.
Damn, Girl! You can write (and cook, apparently). Loved the gingerbread article. My gift to you for ’09 is not to ask you to do anything for me – out of gingerbread or otherwise. Happy New Year!
ok…did mine…

oh,I am seriously trying your snack of shame! (I do that with grapes, but bananas-yum!)
I am so with you on #2! I absolutely despise onions but I LOVE onion rings! I mean – it’s fried – what’s not to love?
You crack me up. Love the Sound of Music. Von Trapp is still in my top ten most handsome men of All Time. Hum the music at the most inappropriate times (routine teeth cleaning). Still watch Hogan’s Heroes on TV Land. And now you have me craving a big cheesy bowl of onion soup. Tell Bob I said hello.
I sing “I Have Confidence” occasionally when walking down the street, too.
I think I love the nonchalance of #4 the most. You have confidence, indeed, sister.
