Eating Chicken Soup with Rice
Nov 7th, 2008 by Marilyn
As I wheeze my way through fall allergies, poor Greg gets to hear me sniffle up the stairs, snuffle down the stairs and now whine all the way to cyberspace. As previously noted, what I’d really like is some chicken soup – but I’m too hazy to even throw a little poultry in the pot. And that’s why, when a friend sent me this clip today, it didn’t just fill me with nostalgia – it filled me with a desire for soup.
I can’t even begin to describe how many times I saw this soup get made on Sesame Street. For the whole first wave of Sesame kids, they played it over and over again, and I talked to the screen – Chicken. Potatoes. Garlic. Rice. I could smell it, taste it, and more than once I imagined I was that girl, shopping in the bodega, chopping the vegetables, spoon full of steam. Today, I wish I was!
It’s really Arroz con Pollo, but the girl says “the soup is buena” – and I am so making that soup.

I could use some soup…
oh,me,too…and soup is buena!!!
I’d be happy eating nothing but soup during this time of the year. Throw in some good bread and cheese, and I’m very content.
I hope you get to feeling better.
Soup is great food…easy to feed a whole family, and you can even get help from the kids on some parts of it. A great way to introduce the art of cooking to the next generation.
And that’s what Sesame Street does so well
