Ten-Word Thursday: Ice Cream
Sep 25th, 2008 by Marilyn
If you’ve read this blog more than once, if you’re among the dedicated few besides my neighbor and my dog – sure Cleo surfs the web, she’s a very special lab – you’ve likely noticed that I’m unable to describe anything in what my lawyerly husband would call an “expeditious” manner.
Sorry, but I believe the brochure does clearly state that “every bite tells a story,” not “every bite tells a tightly crafted legal brief.” And if you’re an efficiency expert you won’t be sitting through my fifth pie story anyway – so to each his delicious own.
That said – after a particularly long post, heavy with meaning and calories, I feel the need to tighten up, both literally and, as my jeans like to say, figuratively. Maybe even stop talking about brownies. I feel the need for a Ten-Word Thursday.
I considered naming this feature “Simmer Haiku,” or “Simmerku” or even “Simmer-Ku to You!” – but honestly, I couldn’t recall how many syllables form a haiku, and if they’re different printed or aloud, or if I could actually write a haiku about, say, chicken parmesan. So let’s go with “Ten-Word Thursday,” a weekly outing in which I must explore one theme through a few pictures and just ten words. Oh, I see Greg slapping his money on the table right now, but I’ll show him – I rigged the keyboard to shock me at 9 1/2. Today’s theme: ice cream.

End of summer.
Dreamy dairy drips -
- away. Butter Pecan. You?
Ha! I love Thursday.

Marilyn, you being a pastry chef must mean that your husband is a lucky man! I can picture him coming home from work and you’ve just been experimenting with 10 different puddings and he has to taste them all! Heaven.
By the way, ice cream for all seasons
you’ve been stumbled by londoneater!
[...] Simmer till done [...]
Yellow cake (with chocolate frosting mixed-in) from Sherman’s in South Haven, MI.
Chocolate almond fudge… the only one for me… and me
From that board I will happily select Pistachio Almond.
it used to be the sugar-free cherry cordial at Baskin Robins……..but since the BR closed……………….I am favorite-less at the moment.
I recently found your blog and you are giving this jayhawk bouts of homesickness! love sylas & maddie’s. love.
Well I’m not your neighbour, or your lab, but I drop by regularly to read your blog. And I like that you take your time to tell a story!
No peanut butter? I will have coconut cream pie. Please.
(That’s 10.)
A haiku has twelve
syllables in its three lines.
Butter Pecan, please.
cinnamon. cinnamon cinnamon. cinnamon cinnamon cinnamon. cinnamon cinnamon. pretty please.
I’m a fan of Silas & Maddy’s Birthday Bash Ice Cream.
Thanks for the invite to appear on Tell Simmer. I’d be honored. Although, I must say I’m a tad bit anxious. I browsed your archives, and I didn’t see any males profiled. I hope your readers are receptive to a little testosterone.
Take care,
muddywaters
Kang: welcome, London Eater! Hope you hang around dessert – believe it or not, my husband is totally sick of them.
Carol: I’ve been to South Haven and don’t know how I could have possibly missed that. Divine!
Rechelle: Chocolate Almond Fudge is a classic for me too…but so is Butter Pecan…and Cappuccino Chip…Sylas & Maddy’s can be a problem.
Jean: you and Greg, in perfect ice cream harmony! That is his numero uno, absolute favorite ice cream pick.
Pam: you just need to head downtown…we’ll meet you there.
Ann: welcome to Simmer (and many things Lawrence!) The ice cream at S & M’s really is that dreamy, eh?
Rosa: I am always glad to have you here – and that anyone would take time to listen. The special blog secret is to always work chocolate or ice cream into a story. It helps.
Amy H: actually, they do have a Peanut Butter Cup flavor that is pretty amazing – big chunks of Reese’s cups swirled into vanilla. Okay – I just talked myself into a snack.
Jo: ah, I was certain you’d rise to the bait and be the first to tell me the proper numbers in Haiku. Lovely – now pass that Butter Pecan over here.
Grace: why am I not surprised about the Cinnamon pick? However, they also have “Cinnamon Caramel” – ooh. Tough choice.
Muddywaters: Birthday Bash is a good one, but you’ll have to remind me of all its ingredients. And don’t worry about being the first guy – they love any kind of hormones.
