Lurker Buffet
Aug 15th, 2008 by Marilyn
Some of you may remember when this blog hosted a little affair called Scones for Lurkers. It was a casual meet-and-greet over scones, a chance for me to grab a mimosa and mingle with my guests.
Well. Someone dialed the party line, because there are many, many more minglers today. And since I don’t like anyone reading my blog on an empty stomach – it’s late afternoon anyway, primo snack hour – I figured…why not? Let’s throw down a tea towel and welcome the lurkers.

Hello there! Glad to see you. Help yourself, all of you…hey, except you! I don’t open the bar ’til six.
Now loyal readers, I know what you’re thinking. You may be thinking…

…hey! She didn’t put out tarts and pie and mandelbread last time, just scones! We got rooked.
Not so, not so, dear friends! I care about each and every one of you more than you know – I appreciate you like brown sugar, or Danish butter, or a glistening Michael Phelps. We’ve just expanded, that’s all.

And after we eat these scones, we can all expand together!
So belly up to the buffet, sweet lurkers (regulars, too) and leave your calling card down there so we can all meet and greet. Plenty to go around, plenty. Don’t shove, people!

I’ll be in the kitchen cutting up more.

While I’m not technically a lurker I would like a plate of those rice krispie treats. They’d be perfect for my continuing afternoon of abject laziness and television watching.
Can someone pass the tarts please? I am in dire need of an afternoon pick-me-up
I am so full I can skip dinner tonight!
I’m definitely not a lurker, but I’d like a couple (or 12) of those cocoa krispy treats. Yum.
Was that comment about the bar not being open until 6PM addressed to me? Is this England circa 1986? Can’t be me, I’m not a lurker. Off to make jug of Pimm’s. Save me a scone. Be back later…
I believe I can help with the dishes. I visit so often. Pass the dish towel.
pure evil…i’ll take 2 of everything…
Not a lurker…I am trying to leave more messages! Everything looks so yummy…I don’t know what to try first!
Definitely guilty as charged. Frequent reader – not so frequent with my commentary! Thanks for the treats!
Yum,thanks I needed that!!!Cup of tea please!
Erin: I agree about the Krispie treats – the perfect lazy snack!
Wanderluster: certainly hope you grabbed a tart before you dozed off.
Peggy: yeah, yeah…I always say that and I never do!
Jayne: I highly recommend the cocoa krispie treats…they’re kind of decadent plus.
modernemama: for you, I’d open it up early. I want to see the jug of Pimm’s!
Jenni: I’ll wash, you dry. Plenty of treats in the kitchen.
Jean: it’s all part of my evil plan. The treats shall inherit the earth.
Linda: by now you’re a regular…but feel free to help yourself!
Dana: welcome back and enjoy the sweets.
Theresa: pouring the tea. Coming right up!
Okay, I admit it…I have been lurking around for quite awhile…Didn’t you ever miss any of the food I have snitched? Enjoy every minute of it too..the food and the posts!
Oh yummy – I am so loving your blog!!!
Id love scone, do you have any devonshire cream by chance?
Hello Marilyn, nice to meet you. I can’t remember exactly how I found you last month (Pioneer Woman maybe?), but I’ve enjoyed your posts as well. Thanks for the scone!
Another great blog! You know, if I would stick to just eating the pictures, I’d have a smaller waistline. My grandfather used to look through magazines with me on his lap. When we came to pictures of food, we would “eat” them. Lots of “yums” and “mmms” as we pretended to eat the foods. Maybe that is when I became a foodie. Thank you again!
Your KC neighbor. Nella
I’ll take one of these, and one of these, two of those and just a nibble of that. Thanks!
Totally a lurker! Sorry…
Love your blog. I always leave hungry. And I also enjoy the bits about Lawrence. I enjoyed my undergrad days there!
I’ll try to be better about the ‘lurking’.
I would love another one of those fun creamy strawberry/kiwi/twirly choc tarts please. I would never feel rooked with only scones. After all they ARE scones and YOUR scones at that!
Ok…I’m a lurker…and now I am out
Amazing looking tarts can do that to me…
I must, must have one! Why, oh why do you tempt us so????
Just what I need….a late night snack! Yum….I’ll sleep tight tonight
Pat: welcome! Don’t worry, I always make extra.
Dawn: thanks! We do our best to please.
Bridgette: welcome. Next time I’ll put out Devon cream and a few tea sandwiches, too.
Sally: you’re welcome! Hope you like cranberry chocolate chip.
Nella: I always looked at the magazine food, too, and have a ridiculous number of clippings and pulled pages. Thanks for coming by!
Susan: help yourself. I mean, it’s the weekend, right?
Jenn: being a lurker isn’t a guilty thing – but it’s fun to know who’s out there. I never shut up about Lawrence, so you’ve come to the right place!
HPH: scones it is, then. I for one can’t stop eating them.
Gina: Hello! Not tempting you…luring you into the kitchen to do it yourself. Thanks for coming by
Darlene: yes, I’m quite sure scones and tarts would bring sweet dreams…and maybe a touch of heartburn.
Hi Marilyn,
It’s true…I’m a lurker! In all honesty, I guess it would be accurate to say that I’m a serial lurker and never really a poster on any of the blogs I frequent. I can’t remember how I found your site but I’ve been reading regularly for about a month and a half now. My favorite post has been Josie and the Pie.
Thanks for baking all those lovely treats. When can I expect them to be delivered?
Hi Eloise! Cross your fingers on that delivery – I’m making more stuff.
You are so funny, Marilyn–and so clever to lure your lurkers out of hiding with a fabulous spread like this. Looks like it’s working! -Julia
Lurker here! I found you on your old blog – I should be building my own New Old House in about a year – and I fell in love with your blog. Yummm….. rice krispie treats!
Julia: aw, “I’m just the cook.” *
*can anyone identify that quote? You’ll never believe that I like this and use it all the time, but I do.
Jess: welcome! Good luck with your New Old House – it’s quite an adventure. You may need more treats for the ride.
The statement “I’m just the cook” was made by one Mr. Steven Seagal in the movie ‘Under Seige’
Since this is my first visit to your blog, I’m not an official lurker (lurker… it sounds so deranged, doesn’t it), but I did want to say, “Hi.”
This post was warm, friendly and funny. If it didn’t draw all your lurkers out of hiding, well… I just don’t think there’s any hope.
Nice to meet you, neighbor. Like Nella, another KC blogger is in the house!
HPH: Absolutely right! I admit it right here and now – love Steven Seagal. It is my guiltiest of pleasures, even more than snacking on butter.
Sandie: Welcome! I like your blog, too, so it all works out. And I’m always happy to see the KC’ers in the house. Winsteads, anyone?
I’m really sorry I missed this spread! Lurking from Texas.
i just found your blog today through Posie Gets Cozy and had to join this party. Your story about zucchini bread was exactly the laugh i needed today. many, many thanks. you’re going into my google reader.
Kathleen: welcome. Did I mention it’s a 24-hour place? The lurker buffet is always open.
abcgirl: Isn’t Posie great? Welcome and glad you liked the “Z” lady – I know I sure didn’t.
I too found you from Alicia’s blog. Your daughter is darling. Pre-teens and teens are not all bad–my freshman daughter is delightful!
I enjoyed reading through some of your old posts–the titles are priceless.
