Let’s Just Take a Look
Aug 6th, 2008 by Marilyn
Right now I’m up to my ears in duffels and magazines, charger cords and road snacks. We’re off to Chicagoland to visit my folks, so today, there is sadly no time to wax poetic about peaches or pie crusts or slices gone by.
This disturbs me. I was all set to share several tasty things with you, but until the mobile internet gods decide to smile over Iowa, they’ll have to wait. Instead, we’ll just take a look at what I wanted to talk about:

The creamiest, sweetest, most puckered-up Key Lime Tarts. Ever.

Lining up for Kansas Twister ice cream at Sylas & Maddy’s.

Baking soft pretzels. We ate so many of them so fast that Josie and I took a solemn vow to never bake them again.

Sake-tinis. So good I’m taking a solemn vow to never drink them again.
Not.

Pancakes with red wine-plum syrup. Fruit lying around plus a big jug of Carlo Rossi-for-cooking on the counter equals a nice red with Sunday breakfast. Why not?

And as if that’s not enough….Josie cheats at solitaire. (Does anyone not?)
Now, gotta grab quarters for the tolls. Hope to blog it all from Chicago, and if you’re anywhere off I-80 today, I’ll be the one eating pretzels and waving hello!

You know what’s great about Chicago? It’s halfway to Philly!
OK, I’ll stop that.
Have fun in Chi-town!
Thanks!
That syrup on the pancakes looks luscious. mmmm.
Hey, you willing to part with that pretzel recipe? I’d love to try it out.
Lush!!
Give your Dad a goose for me.
I can’t wait to try the saketinis. They sound great!
I also made key lime tarts today! Great cooks think alike!
And I LOVE homemade soft pretzels! You’ve captured my interest! I’ll be checking back for recipes!
Finally in Chicago-land.
All these photos (and looking at them here on my dad’s big computer monitor – as opposed to my 13″ MacBook – I’m thinking “boy they look huge!”) were intended as previews. So recipes and more will absolutely come along soon. Any excuse to talk about pretzels, pancakes and key limes!
Dana – welcome! That sake-tini isn’t by me, but from the Scarlet Orchid, a great restaurant in my town where I imbibed it. Order one if you see it – and be careful. They do sneak up.
your teasers have me all discombobulated and very much looking forward to the real posts. i seem to be especially smitten with those pancakes…
have a little extra fun for me!
It is weird how things look different on different monitors….
And….it is hard to cheat with computer solitare. Love that shot. Great perspective.
