The Two Josephines
Jul 16th, 2008 by Marilyn
Here, from a month ago at the Louvre, are two lucky Josephines.

One is lucky because she is a twelve-year old visiting the Louvre. The other, well – she was Empress of France. But she had to sleep with a little madman in epaulets, so…who’s luckier?
I don’t often make Josie – named for a great-grandpa and Jo March, thank you very much – pose in front of things, but here I could not resist. I snapped fast – but was clearly too close to my subject, because it took numerous friends and Flickr viewers to note the similarities I’d somehow missed: two center parts, two strappy headbands…two bored half-smiles.
Empress Josephine: “How can I avoid the little toad and meet my lover tonight?”
Modern Josephine: “How can I avoid another gallery and find some ice cream?”

Ah, there we are. Even her servants need a treat now and then.
Funny what you see and what you don’t see. I love taking pictures, but look at Josie’s face! Sometimes being on the other side is a royal pain.

I love looking at my photos after a trip, and realizing that I’ve shot all things pink, or all windows, or all bored teenagers. Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve seen.
So cute!!
Love it!
She will appreciate the picture when she’s older.
G R E A T photo!
Even before reading your post, I thought, “They kinda look alike.” Great photo!
so similar and is that “glace rhum raisin” perchance?
Lydia:
It’s so true – I came home from Paris and found I’d shot a million pictures of cafe chairs. Good chairs are hard to find – bored teenagers, easy!
Jean:
Cute, cute. We aim to please!
PVS:
Thanks. Consider this my ‘scrapped’ version!
Darb Phud:
She must have really been something to put up with the little man.
Joanne:
Thanks!
modernemama:
I think that might be hazelnut. In any event, it was good.
What a great photo !!!
I loved the Louve – My Hubby and I were just in France in early May – What a wonderful city – We pretty much ate and drank our way across France and Belgium…
Cheers

My daughter Josie is named after her great Grandpa, Great Great Grand Aunt and Jo March!
She’s just 6.5. Your beautiful daughter looks like she could grow up to look like Empress Josephine in that painting!
