Scones for Lurkers (yes, you!)
May 13th, 2008 by Marilyn
Shhh….I am putting out scones…

…for the lurkers.
Wait…ah ah ah! Hold on there. If you’ve been quietly enjoying this blog – and you know this blog enjoys you – today’s your day to speak up. Leave a little comment so we know you’re out there – then pull up a chair and take a bite! Because snacks are much better when you know who you’re snacking with. When one is doing some virtual snacking. Whatever.
Sweet plump apricots…melting chocolate chips…come on…I’ll just put one on the table…

Now, that’s better. Lurk no more! By the way, you picked a good one. I gave that one extra chips.
Want to make your own Apricot Chocolate Chip Scones? Follow this recipe, but omit the orange zest and add 1 cup of chopped dried apricots.
Little Tips that Work: Plump dried apricots can be both sticky and tricky to chop, so try this: use a sharp, wide knife and before you chop, spray both sides of the blade with cooking spray, such as Pam. It works!
EDIT 5/14/08
Wow. You know when you make an invitation list and you figure, 30% of the people won’t come, and then something like double the guests show up? That’s how I feel. And since so many of you early arrivals snarfed down the Apricot Chocolate Chip, I felt obliged to make more scones. Hope you don’t mind trying out a few Cherry Hazelnut.

Could I be the first lurker to take a bite? Imagine that! I’m Patty from Maryland and have been enjoying your blog for a little while now. I do check in daily and I promise to be better with leaving comments and not just lurk.
Thanks for all the yummies and for sharing!
Hi, my name is Bridgid. I am from Montana and addicted to scones. It was a scone recipe that brought me to your site a few months ago. I have tried many recipes and yours is the first that was ‘just right’. I visit nearly every day and will try to leave some comments. Thank you!
I’m not a lurker, I’m a certified squatter.
Once again, you inspire me to bake. Thanks!
OH they were so good thanks for the snack. I needed that & with a good cup of tea it hit the spot. I’ve been lurking for a while, love your recipes. Keep it up.
I am a lurker, I guess, although I think I’ve commented one other time … but I love your good-looking goodies. I know CDW and although I am a K-Stater I also love Lawrence, and I was excited when Chalmers hit that shot.
Oh man………now I’m hungry again! A cup of tea and a scone…….it doesn’t get much better than that!
Hi! I just hopped over here from the Rambling Renovators site, which mentioned you, and the scones sucked me right in. What a clever way to lure the lurkers out of hiding! I might try that on my blog sometime!
Now if I could just find someone around here to make a batch of these for me tonight…. -Julia
Linda from Iowa, pleased to meet you! Thanks for the delicious scone. I am having a tea party on Saturday and I just might have to use that scone recipe! I read often, but am bad about commenting…sorry.
Not my first comment but it’s been a while. Those scones looks delicious, in fact, everything you cook looks delicious!!
Well now! Hello Patty, Bridgid, Joann, Sarah, Linda, Jeanette, and Julia. Oh fine, Jean, Pam and Carol…not lurkers, but take a scone. No, not that one! It’s for the guests.
We’re not lurkers, either…………and do we love those scones!!
Hi, I’m Kate from Virginia. I picked up your old blog about a week before you moved. I’m really enjoying all the yummy-looking recipes.
*nabs a scone*
Hi I’m Cathy and I’m your ex-roomie from college! You made me those scones years ago and I have loved them ever since! Do you think you will have any fresh scones for me when I’m in town the end of June? uh?
Oh dear! I got here late. Are there any scones left?
I’m Molly and I could really go for a scone right now. I have my cup of tea ready to go too.
I’m a fellow KU fan, live in Wichita, and a lurker. I love your home, your blog, and your scones!
Any left over for another squatter?
Love the scones, made the cranberry almond ones twice.
Yum, delish! Finally have a stove on the way so I can make the recipe. Smiles, LC
The scones look great. I tried making them before – yours look prettier. I need a brownie recipe. I usually end up using the box mixes, but I want to make a large batch to take to meetings.
Zips in. Shakes last crumbs off plate. Considers licking plate. Nah, impolite. Glances left and right. Zips out.
Rattling off your names sounds like a Mousketeer roll call – Kate, Molly, Darla, Joanne, twin Jeanettes! Welcome also to HPH, LC, the regulars and all of you. Even you, Papa, and you, Cathy, who’ve both had enough scones to fill Buckingham Palace.
Cath, if you don’t stop whining for scones, I’m gonna tell everyone exactly where you live, and now they all know you’ll be out of town in June.
The rest of you, help yourself to the Cherry Hazelnut!
i check your blog every day but i abstain from leaving a comment because of my wonky keyboard. it is stuck in lower case and and my only punctuation is a period. so i will start leaving comments and hopefully soon i will be able to type like an adult.
i will have a mug of decaf coffee with my scone please. pretty please.
love your blog
Hi! I’ve been a lurker for quite some time… found you via CDW & Renovation Therapy (where I also lurk!). Like Sarah H., I too know CDW, I’m also a K-Stater, and also love Lawrence – mainly because my oldest son is a freshman (soon to be sophomore!) at KU! Have really enjoyed your blog(s)! Thanks for the scone… delish!
Deborah used my favorite word.
WONKY
I love that word.
Okay, I’ll fess up to my lurking. I came across your old blog via Baltimore Rowhouse (my boyfriend’s blog!). I love all of your recipes, and I was especially excited to see you post your scones. I love making scones (raspberry, blackberry, choc chip) but I will have to add your recipes to my repertoire!
Also, I’m a U of Illinois grad – we aren’t the biggest fans of your KU bball coach, but I’ll keep reading / lurking anyways
Wow! With all these friends and peeps, we’re going to have to start calling you Mariline-up-and-take-a-number! Not that your blog isn’t worthy of all the attention, mind you. So this is my 3rd or 4th post (I think). Do I still qualify for a scone? I’m going to be very disappointed if I don’t.
I enjoy your website–the old one and this new one. I just made lemon barley scones this morning, but there’s always room for another one!
Hello to Wonky Deb, Kim, Leigh (even though you’re an Illini – and hello to Mr. Rowhouse), Kath and my dear down under pal Michelle (MB) who always qualifies for scones, even if they’re not the Sydney kind. Soon you’ll be back in the US of A, my friend, and have to deal with the Ameri-scone all the time.
Cherry hazelnut, Marilyn? You have my heart, you clever woman, you.
I want a cherry hazelnut scone right now. I will meet you in Topeka under the capitol dome. You bring the scones, I will bring the latte’s.
Hi Marilyn
Im Robyn from Sydney Australia
Some wonderful wonderful recipes and a wonderful blog.
I will post comments more often and take a bite of those second scones if I may!
Hi Robyn! Thanks for stopping by – just for you, I’ll put another scone on the barbie. Oh, that was awful.
Any more lurkers still sniffing for scones?
