Cup and Saucer Cookie Contest Winners
Apr 23rd, 2008 by Marilyn
I only wish I’d picked this cup and saucer up at some of the guessed locations – Canberra, Maldives, Dublin, oh, if only! But no, they were from a roadside restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa, and both Carol and Jenni uttered the phrase “Cracker Barrel,” which means those lucky girls will be getting recipe-imprinted postcards from Lawrence, Kansas. Congratulations and watch your mailboxes, ladies!
Yes I said Cracker Barrel, the “Old Country Store” restaurant that’s not far off the road, where you see a lot of breakfasts served sunny side up. Their stores up front are full of “vintage” American stuff – cast iron pans and Slinkys and Moonpies and cookie jars. Some of it is crap, and some of it is pretty, pretty enough to pick up and turn over, like my pink-flowered cup and saucer – made in China, I could not believe it.
The set was so delicate and proper it might have rested in the queen’s hand, but I glanced around to check, and I was still in Des Moines. For less than ten dollars they’ve been faking it on my table ever since.
And doing a lovely job, too!

Yeah! I won something. Do you need my mailing address? I bet those cookies are as good as the quiche and muffin recipes. I’ve made both multiple times. Yum, I can’t wait!
Yay!!Thank goodness for the Cookie recipe, I’ve been thinking of using the quaker box recipe and just adding c. chips. Really they are both out on the counter now.
I like the toy section at Cracker Barrel.
Carol – yes, send me your mailing address at marilyn.naron@gmail.com – and enjoy another recipe!
Jenni – you certainly could use the Quaker recipe plus chips – the “Vanishing Oatmeal Cookie” is a classic, but this one’s good, too. Josie would like to state for the record that she, too, loves the Cracker Barrel toy section, and it’s true – when she was little we picked up many a Dover book or road game that saved the day.
Cracker Barrel, no way! Now that surprised me.
